Bo-Kaap Caszh II

51cm x 40cm

Oil on Canvas

The Bo-Kaap’s origins date back to the 1760s when numerous “huurhuisjes” were built and leased to slaves by Dutch colonists. By law, all houses had to be white, but when this law was lifted, freed slaves were allowed to purchase the properties and promptly painted them in the bold, bright colours we know and love today. The Bo-Kaap Caszh (abbreviation for casual) series celebrates this expression of freedom and individuality. Available and for sale @ INK BOX ART - https://www.inkbox.co.za
