Siren II is a conceptual exploration of the mythological sirens mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey within a Western Cape context. The Cape is known as the Cape of Storms, renowned for its heavy storms and many shipwrecks over the centuries. Otherworldly beings, sirens were believed to be half women, half bird (depicted by the lesser double-collared sunbird), the sirens would lure sailors to shore with their beautiful songs, only to dash their ships against the rocks in the stormy seas and perish.
